THE DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) is carrying out operations again weather modification (OMC) for mitigation extreme weather and anticipate flooding for three days starting tomorrow, Thursday (12/12) to Saturday (14/12).
Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Teguh Setyabudi said that for this second phase of weather modification, he hopes that the process of sowing salt by plane can be carried out at night so that the distribution of rain is more even and more effective in reducing the intensity of the rain.
“Hopefully the second phase will allow night flying, so it can be more effective,” he said at SDN 09 Kebon Kosong, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (11/12).
He said, according to weather forecasts from the Meteorology, Geophysics and Climatology Agency (BMKG) extreme weather continues until mid-December.
“This is the second stage, hopefully it will be even better,” he explained.
Previously, the first stage of OMC took place from Saturday (7/12) to Monday (9/12) today. Teguh also claimed that the results of the OMC were successful in reducing the intensity of rain in Jakarta.
“Indeed, as stated at the meeting, weather engineering does not mean it will stop the rain, but at least it will reduce the intensity of the rain significantly. And we will see on the 7th, 8th (December), God willing, today there will also be relatively light rain,” said Teguh .
Apart from carrying out OMC, Teguh continued, his party is also intensively coordinating with related parties so that they can deal with floods quickly and precisely.
“If flooding does occur, we will also increase synergy and collaboration between related OPDs, of course also related ministries and institutions,” said Teguh.
“The last thing we are also optimizing together with BMKG is the use of a weather dashboard which allows us to see in more detail the points of possibility of rain or potential floods down to the sub-district level or on the roads,” he continued. (P-5)
