Coordinating MINISTER for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Community Affairs Yusril Ihza Mahendra emphasized that his party and the Corruption Eradication Commission (Corruption Eradication Commission) plans to revise the Law on Corruption Crimes (Corruption Law).
Yusril said that the Corruption Law needs to be revised and adapted to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) and the Criminal Code (KUHP).
Responding to this, Anti-Corruption activist Herdiansyah Hamzah Castro emphasized that the government should prioritize returning the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) before revising the law rather than revising the Corruption Eradication Law.
“So it is not the Corruption Law that is the priority but the Corruption Eradication Committee Law. “That is if the current regime or power has the mindset of how to restore the Corruption Eradication Commission as an institution that was born according to public expectations,” Castro stressed to Media Indonesia, Wednesday (11/12).
Then, Castro encouraged the government to prioritize drafting an Asset Confiscation Law.
So, said Castro, these two things are directly proportional. If not, Castro believes it would be useless to return the KPK to the way it was before the law revision but also abandon the draft Asset Confiscation Law.
“I think both are important. In fact, if we are based on evaluation, the first priority should be to restore the Corruption Eradication Commission to the state it was in before the bill. “But at the same time we must also push for the Asset Confiscation Bill,” he stressed. (Ykb/I-2)
