Real Madrid Failed to Seize the Top of the Standings

THE Spanish GIANT Real Madrid failed to seize the top position from Barcelona after only drawing 3-3 against their opponents Rayo Vallecano in
advanced La Liga 2024/25 week 17 at the Estadio de Vallecas, Madrid on Sunday morning WIB.

Real Madrid failed to overtake Barcelona at the top of the standings. El Real is stuck in second place with 37 points, while Rayo is ranked 13th with 20 points.

In that match, four goals were scored directly in the first half. Rayo Vallecano’s three goals were scored by Unai Lopez, Abdul Mumin and Isaac Palazon respectively. Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s goals were scored by Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo.


Vallecano immediately took the lead after four minutes of the match. Unai Lopez took a 1-0 lead after his header failed to be stopped by the goalkeeper
Thibaut Courtois. Rayo doubled their lead in the 36th minute, Abdul Anim scored after taking advantage of a dead ball scheme. The score was 2-0.

Real Madrid were only able to reduce the deficit in the 39th minute. Receiving the ball from Arda Guler, Fede Valverde fired a hard kick from outside the penalty box which broke through Augusto Batalla’s goal. Rayo 2-1 Real Madrid.

Towards the end of the first half, Real Madrid recovered and were able to equalize the score. Jude Bellingham got his name on the scoreboard with a header after maximizing Rodrygo’s cross. The first half finished 2-2.

In the second half, Madrid took the lead to 3-2 in the 56th minute thanks to Rodrygo’s goal using Arda Guler’s pass. Madrid’s lead only lasted until the 64th minute. Isi Palazon was able to bring the score back to 3-3 with a flick in front of the goal.

The match was going tough after the score returned to a draw. Madrid put pressure on entering the final minutes through a number of opportunities, but the score remained until the game ended. (Ant/P-3)
