UNITY OF Indonesian Traditional Fishermen (KNTI) is holding a Coastal Food Consultation in 35 KNTI base districts/cities, from 1-10 December 2024. The highlight will be the National Coastal Food Conference at the Central Java Pavilion, Thursday, 12 December 2024.
The Chief Executive of the Activity, Niko Amrullah, said that this activity was held as a form of KNTI’s commitment to participate in realizing food self-sufficiency and programs Free Nutritious Meals which is a priority for President Prabowo Subianto’s government. “Through this activity, we hope to produce a formulation of recommendations to strengthen the ecosystem of independence and food sovereignty from the sea, as well as strengthen the ties of friendship between all of us,” explained Niko.
He hopes that there will be joint efforts to strengthen the ecosystem for food independence and sovereignty from the sea. This can be realized through coastal women’s consultation activities.
Meanwhile, KNTI General Chair Dani Setiawan expressed KNTI’s commitment to supporting the government’s food independence agenda. “We support the food independence of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran. We are ready to fight together so that food from marine fisheries becomes superior food as well as answering the problem of the domestic and world food crisis,” explained Dani.
They believe it can be realized because fisherman we are strong, tough and brave. Apart from that, our farmers are also very productive, so that the marine fisheries sector will be able to meet domestic and world protein needs.
The KNTI Cooperative is also ready to take part in the success of the Free Bergzi Meal (MBG) program. The involvement of fishing cooperatives in MBG will encourage fishermen’s welfare.
Apart from that, Dani conveyed the importance of maintaining the health of the sea as a food-producing resource ecosystem. “Dirty and damaged seas will cause poverty among fishermen. Therefore, KNTI is taking steps to encourage a sustainable marine environment/ecosystem as a concrete manifestation of maintaining food resources and fishermen’s welfare,” explained Dani.
Deputy for Maritime Resources Coordination Dandy Satria Iswara, who was present representing the Coordinating Minister for Food, said that the Coordinating Ministry for Food was formed to support the President’s Asta Cita program no. 2, namely Strengthening the National Security Defense System and Encouraging National Independence through Self-Sufficiency in Food, Energy, Water, Sharia Economy, Digital Economy, Green Economy and Blue Economy.
“Food self-sufficiency is targeted to be achieved by 2027. The Food Law mandates Food Independence, Food Security, Food Sovereignty and Food Security. The country must have the ability to produce a variety of food domestically to guarantee food needs and the availability of food that is sovereign and safe for consumption by utilizing the potential of natural, human, social, economic resources and local wisdom,” explained Dandy.
The government, in accordance with the mandate of the law, must prepare facilities and infrastructure for carrying out business activities, provide certainty of sustainable business, strengthen the capacity of fishermen and small salt farmers, develop financing and institutional systems, protect against the risk of natural disasters, climate change and pollution. ; and provide security and safety guarantees as well as legal assistance for the problems faced.
“The diversity of capture fisheries nationally shows that the role of small fishermen is very large with a fleet share of more than 90% of the national capture fisheries fleet, with catch production of more than 70% of national capture fisheries production. Thus, the government should pay more attention “to small fishermen through policies that are more in favor of meeting the needs and increasing the capacity of small fishermen,” Dandy.
Regarding the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG), the role of traditional fishermen is very strategic as the spearhead of this policy. Fishermen become providers fish who can sell the catch directly and make it into the menu in the MBG program. (Z-2)
