Culturally Speaking #61

By Sarah Stodola

-------------------------------------

Me Three note:  If you haven't yet, be sure to sign up for our newsletter in the box at the left.  Tyler Gore is now our events expert, and every week he tells you of the best that can be done in New York City.  The only way you can gain the wisdom is by joining the Me Three Yahoo Group, and I would be very upset to see you missing out...

* * *

When pitted in head to head competition, the computer nerds of America's University's are not fairing very well against their contemporary's from Asia and Eastern Europe...

* * *

Good riddance, Judith Regan.

* * *

Once upon a time, Europe was backwards and America was progressive.  Once upon a time, like only 20 years ago...

* * *

As Howard Kurtz says in the Washington Post, in opposing the estate tax, the "Republicans have gone on record as trying to protect the top 0.3 percent, the richest households by far in the US of A."

* * *

MoMa is raking in some serious cash.  David Rockefeller just gave it $100 million, and with the entry fee sitting at $20 a head, the million visitors since the museum's reopening in November have brought in probably not too much less than $20 million.  On the one hand, it's nice to see an art museum with so much money.  On the other, though, some of their tactics seem needlessly mercenary.

* * *

And in other MoMa news, Slate has some harsh criticism for the new building (that cost, incidentally, $425 million).

* * *

A very nice short story by Hannah Holborn on Identity Theory...

* * *

A very interesting interview with Camille Paglia that makes me like her very much.
