Putri MJ said that consuming large portions of carbohydrates can increase blood sugar levels quickly, which is then followed by a decrease in blood sugar levels. This decrease in blood sugar levels can make the body feel tired or sleepy.
“Usually when we finish eating we are sleepy, this is usually because we consumed too many carbohydrates. So if we consume carbohydrates, blood sugar will rise, but if it is not balanced with protein and fiber, the increase, if you look at the graph, will rise quickly and fall too it will be fast,” he said when met at Ganara Art Space, Plaza Indonesia, Jakarta on Wednesday (11/12).
He added that it is very important for us to balance foods containing carbohydrates with protein and fiber.
“Meanwhile, if we don’t eat too many carbohydrates and balance them with protein and fiber, blood sugar will rise slowly and it will also fall slowly. So it will be better for our condition so we don’t get hungry quickly,” he said.
According to him, if you consume carbohydrates in large quantities and continuously, you can gain weight more quickly and have the potential to become obese.
“If we consume too many carbohydrates and fat, it can trigger our bodies to consume too many calories. Because carbohydrates are four kilo calories per gram, fat is nine kilo calories per gram. Too much can cause weight gain,” concluded Putri.
