MINISTER of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf attended the ministerial level meeting chaired by Coordinating Minister for Human Empowerment (Coordinating Minister for PM) Muhaimin Iskandar. This meeting focused on discussing strategic steps in acceleration poverty alleviation in Indonesia, especially in realizing the target of reducing extreme poverty to zero percent by 2025.
This meeting is one of the coordinating steps to ensure that poverty alleviation programs are effective and on target.
During the meeting, Gus Ipul explained a number of programs and work spaces that had been implemented by the Ministry of Social Affairs. Gus Ipul explained that the Ministry of Social Affairs’ programs use a targeted, integrated and sustainable approach.
“The program targets are proposed through DTKS (Integrated Social Welfare Data) as the basis for implementation, then executed through three Directorate Generals with their respective duties and functions,” he said as quoted from an official statement, Wednesday (18/12).
Gus Ipul added that the poverty management program that has been implemented by the Ministry of Social Affairs includes the distribution of social assistance, community empowerment through the Family Hope Program (PKH), Non-Cash Food Assistance (BPNT), as well as efforts to increase economic capacity for vulnerable groups and poor communities.
“The Ministry of Social Affairs continues to strive to implement various comprehensive assistance programs, ranging from social protection to social rehabilitation. We also ensure that this program reaches the community groups that need it most,” said Gus Ipul.
Furthermore, Gus Ipul emphasized the importance of cross-sector coordination so that poverty management programs do not overlap and can produce a significant impact in the field. He also highlighted the need to strengthen monitoring and evaluation so that the assistance provided is right on target.
“We need support and synergy from various parties, including ministries, regional governments and other related institutions. This is important so that the programs we run can run more effectively, efficiently and can be felt directly by the poor,” he added.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for PM Muhaimin Iskandar expressed the government’s commitment to ensuring that poverty alleviation becomes a top priority in national development. According to him, the extreme poverty rate that is currently still occurring in a number of regions must be immediately addressed through more unified and integrated policies.
“Our target is clear, namely to achieve zero percent extreme poverty by 2025. To achieve that, we need to ensure that every program implemented has a concrete impact on the ground. Accurate data, program integration and strict supervision are the keys to success,” emphasized Muhaimin Iskandar.
On this occasion, the meeting participants also conveyed various input regarding the challenges faced in the field, such as obstacles to the distribution of aid, infrastructure gaps in disadvantaged areas, and the need to increase human resource capacity in program implementation.
Coordinating Minister for PM Muhaimin Iskandar closed the meeting with the hope that all relevant ministries and institutions can improve coordination and synergy to accelerate efforts to eradicate poverty in Indonesia.
“Collaboration is the main key. I am sure that with solid cooperation and the right policies, we can achieve this target and create a more prosperous Indonesia,” concluded Muhaimin. (Dec/P-3)
